Record number of utility and construction industry professionals attend Louisville show
Thanks to good weather and some exciting new exhibits, the 2005 International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) attracted more than 16,400 industry professionals — its highest recorded attendance in show history. ICUEE 2005 was held Sept. 28-29 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky.
“Attendees came to see what’s new and to test, compare and buy the equipment, products and services they need to enhance work site performance and productivity,” said ICUEE Show Manager Nicole Hallada.
Known as the Demo Expo, the show featured more than 800 exhibitors and more than 1.113 million net square feet of exhibit space, where attendees could operate equipment in demonstrations simulating real-life working conditions. Also, an extensive education program complemented displays of the latest equipment technology and product innovations. Attendees had an opportunity to learn about the latest technological, operational, safety and regulatory issues, and trends affecting the utility and construction industry.
ICUEE, which targets electric, sewer/water, phone/cable, gas, general construction, government, and landscaping industry professionals, is owned and produced by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. According to show officials, ICUEE 2005 attendance topped the previous record reached in 1999 of 14,841 attendees and was almost 20 percent higher than attendance at the last ICUEE, held in 2003 (13,698 attendees).
Show attendees came from all industry segments, and more than 5 percent were international visitors, representing more than 40 counties.
ICUEE 2005 offered more than triple the amount of education that was presented at the last show. These educational sessions offered contractors, field operators, executives and government officials in the construction and utilities industries the specific information, tools and techniques they need to help their businesses succeed.
Among the many exhibitors at ICUEE were Allied Construction Products, Allison Transmission, Allmand Bros. Inc., Atlas Copco Construction Tools, Bobcat Co., Bor-It Manufacturing Co., Case Corp., Caterpillar Inc., Cummins Inc., Ditch Witch, Fecon Inc., Ingersoll-Rand Construction Equipment, International Truck & Engine Corp., Iowa Mold Tooling, JCB, John Deere Construction & Forestry, Komatsu America, Kubota Tractor Corp., Liebherr Construction Equipment Co., McLaughlin Mfg. Co., Multiquip Inc., Rotary Lift, Stanley Hydraulic Tools, Stone Construction Equipment Inc., Vermeer Manufacturing Co., and Volvo Construction Equipment.
During the show, Caterpillar introduced the C-Series mini hydraulic excavators and work tools, C4.4 engines, and Caterpillar Electronics and Electrical Systems (Cat Electronics) showcased its products. Vermeer introduced 12 new products at the show, including drills, utility trenchers, track trenchers, and vacuum excavators, and Rotary Lift introduced a line of productivity jacks for the precise removal and installation of various vehicle assemblies.
Elsewhere, Atlas Copco Construction Tools exhibited its Cobra Combi gas-powered drill/breaker along with other equipment; Iowa Mold Tooling Inc. displayed the Dominator 1 and Dominator II field service vehicles, along with its complete electric telescopic crane line; and Komatsu introduced its CK30 compact track loader and featured a variety of hydraulic excavators and skid steer loaders.
