New Elliott BoomTruck Assists in Tornado Clean Up

In May 2004 a tornado devastated the town of Hallam, NE ravaging homes, schools and businesses in this Nebraska community.

Tornadoes are a somewhat common event in Nebraska, but the damage from this storm was far more severe than most. Cleanup crews from Nebraska Public Power were at the scene almost immediately, to coordinate the repair of all the lines, poles and structures taken down by the storm.

Among those called to help out were Brink Electric Construction of Rapid City South Dakota and Capitol Equipment Rentals of Omaha. Capitol supplied Brink Electric an Elliott Equipment Company 1870 BoomTruck to assist in stringing the new power cable. According the Capitol Rentals General Manager, Herb Fuhrman, Brink Electric was looking for something that was heavy-duty enough to do the job, and offered quick setup. They also liked the operator amenities on the Elliott BoomTruck.

The Elliott 1870 features an 18 ton maximum

capacity and the largest crane chart in its class. In addition, the unit supplied to Brink Electric came with radio remotes and a one worker basket that can be mounted to the fully extended two-stage jib, giving 120 feet of working height.
