You need an auger like you need a hole in the ground, which, actually, is quite often if you find yourself digging holes for trees, posts, poles and sprinklers. The following augers are available as attachments to compact pieces of equipment or manual operation and they feature various digging depths and widths. If you need more information about these augers, use the reader service numbers provided at the end of each product description.

BOBCAT COMPANY

Bobcat offers the Toolcat with auger attachment, which is designed for drilling holes for posts, piers, poles and trees in all types of soil conditions. This heavy-duty hydraulic auger bits with high torque power lets you dig 6- to 42-inch holes with speed and plumb-line accuracy. Because of a knuckle-joint design, the auger will hang plumb even on uneven terrain. With direct drive for more efficient operation, this auger features a smaller drive housing, which allows the entire drive unit to follow the bit into the hole. This can add a foot more of dig depth than a standard drive unit. Both hex or round output shafts are available in addition to an improved mounting system for both excavator and loader mounting. DANUSER

Danuser Machine Company, Inc. introduces the Auger Drive Units, which are backed by a five-year warranty. Danuser offers 24 drive-unit augers to choose from and the models range from 6 to 60 gpm at 1,500 to 5,000 psi. The available torque ranges from 1,039 to 8,759 foot-pounds. Danuser augers are available in 2-inch round, 2 9 / 16 -inch round and 2-inch hex with diameters ranging from 4 to 48 inches. Reader Service # 161 a* freeproductinfo.net/gm

DITCH WITCH

Ditch Witch introduces SK600 mini skid steer with the planetary auger attachment, which is used for digging vertical holes in most soil conditions. This attachment provides low-speed, high-torque drilling. There is also a high-speed, low-torque drilling option. The planetary auger attachment is also designed for rugged construction, long-term durability, ease of use and reliability. Reader Service # 162 a* freeproductinfo.net/gm

CATERPILLAR

Caterpillar offers four auger models: the direct-drive A7 Auger for the Mini Hydraulic Excavator; the chain-driven A14B Auger for the Mini Hydraulic Excavator, Multi Terrain Loader and the Skid Steer Loader; the planetary-driven A19B Auger for the Mini Hydraulic Excavator, Multi Terrain Loader and the Skid Steer Loader; and the planetary-driven high flow A26B Auger for the Skid Steer Loader. Caterpillar augers are used for drilling holes for footings, fencing, signs, trees and shrubs in construction, agricultural and landscaping applications. They are designed with enough speed and torque for maximum productivity in a broad range of soil types. Reader Service # 163 a* freeproductinfo.net/gm

GENERAL EQUIPMENT CO.

General Equipment introduces the 240 hole digger, which is designed for use in lawn and garden, homeowner and light construction digging projects. A 1.6-hp Subaru Robin EH0354-stroke gasoline engine supplies the power to the 240 hole digger. A Magura twist-grip throttle controls the engine speed for optimal power output. Using an efficient spur gear transmission, the 240 produces a maximum drilling torque of 55 foot-pounds. The 1-inch-diameter driveshaft connection accommodates the use of earth augers ranging from 2 to 8 inches in diameter. The standard digging depth is 30 inches, which can be increased with an available 15-inch, non-flighted extension. Reader Service # 164 a* freeproductinfo.net/gm

JOHN DEERE

John Deere offers two types of auger attachments for its skid steers and compact track loaders: planetary- and chain-drive augers. Planetary-drive augers use a hydraulic motor that drives the auger through a sealed planetary gear reduction. The heavy-duty, all-gear design gives this unit a long life with minimal maintenance. The drive is completely sealed and has self-plumbing for straight holes in level or sloped terrain. The chain-drive auger is for lighter-use situations, which still call for rugged, reliable construction. The fixed chain centers eliminate adjustments, while the floating drive sprocket ensures constant chain alignment. Reader Service # 165 a* freeproductinfo.net/gm

LAND PRIDE

Land Pride introduces the SA35 Series Post Hole Diggers for tractor and skid steer auger attachments. The skid-steer-mounted Post Hole Diggers offer high torque output, planetary gearbox, 2-inch hex or 2 9 / 16 -inch splined output shaft and augers sized from 9 to 36 inches. The 36-inch auger is designed for planting ball-rooted trees. Land Pride offers a universal fit to most skid steers and increased maneuverability as the augers are able to reach over fences or other obstructions. Reader Service # 166 a* freeproductinfo.net/gm

MCMILLEN

McMillen introduces the 3K2 Double Mc, 2-Speed Auger Drive, which includes two speeds that allow you to choose high torque for difficult ground or large-diameter bits, or high speed for light to moderate ground or small-diameter bits. The McMillen auger flow ranges from 10 to 25 gpm at a maximum 3,000 psi. The unit can easily be fitted up to any existing utility/construction equipment that has adequate hydraulics to operate the unit. Reader Service # 167 a* freeproductinfo.net/gm

REDMAX

RedMax introduces the AG2300 auger, which has enough power to dig most postholes, yet it is lightweight for easy handling. The 11.2-pound auger is powered by RedMax’s 22.5cc 2-cycle engine, which drives a 2- to 4-inch auger through a 35:1 reduction transmission. The AG2300 has enough power to dig holes for 4×4 fence posts and deck footings, and comes with a two-year commercial warranty. Reader Service # 168 a* freeproductinfo.net/gm
